Feel Good To Die = A Christmas Carol

I know what you’re thinking – “Huh? What’s feel good to die? Isn’t she a little toooo obsessed with a Christmas Carol over here?” And, I’m not, but I can see how you might think that. If you didn’t think that then just forget about this and let’s move on.

Feel Good To Die is a 2018 (it came out around Christmas time – ha!) KBS2 drama starring Baek Jin Hee and Kang Ji Hwan.

Baek Jin Hee, a regular office employee, ends up stuck in a ‘time loop’ repeating the same day over and over again Groundhog Day style till she can successfully reform her abrasive boss Team Leader Baek, played by Kang Ji Hwan.

Apart from it being delightful and absolutely HILARIOUS it is also A Christmas Carol.

I’m going to assume we all know the plot of A Christmas Carol and just jump right into the role assignments.

In the Dickens novel we have Scrooge, the mean old miser, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, the Cratchet family (and Scrooge’s friends) and Old Marley’s Ghost.

In Feel Good To Die Scrooge is – you guessed it, Team Leader Baek, Kang Ji Hwan. He’s not angry or bitter or evil or anything so you might not immediately make the connection, but he is rude, condescending and completely oblivious to other peoples thoughts, feelings and lives – oh and he doesn’t take responsibility for anything.

Enter the Ghost of Christmas Past in Baek Jin Hee. Baek Jin Hee is the one stuck in the time loop, literally stuck in the past, forced to experiencing the same events over and over again till a significant change is made to break the loop. There are so many fun episodes where they show her struggling to break the loop and she does and then there’s another loop and another and it goes on and on. The only way to break the loop is to change herself and her boss Team Leader Baek.

We get the Ghost of Christmas Present in the body of Gong Myung. He’s a super positive, secret grandson of the CEO, always ready to do the right thing kinda guy. He reminds me a lot of Scrooges nephew too. He’s constantly telling Baek Jin Hee and Team Leader Baek to be in the present, work in the present, fix things in the present. It can’t get any clearer than that.

The Ghost of Christmas Future is the one the started it all by wishing for the death of her ex-boss Team Leader Baek. Unfortunately I’m having a hard time finding her name, but I’ll find a picture of her. She fell into a coma after refusing to leave her building as it was burning as she saw no point – to anything anymore. They hardly show us her face throughout all of it, every camera angle is just so that it’s hard to see her. It’s so hard to see her cause I can’t find any pictures of her or her scenes! So, here’s a fire gif to give you an idea.

The Cratchet’s would be any and all of the employees on Team Leader Baek’s team and througout the whole company, and the Ghost of Marley would be the bosses and his old colleague.

I was surprised by how much I really loved this drama and by how well they were able to do A Christmas Carol without making me even really realize till the end that it WAS A Christmas Carol!

So, if you’ve ever thought to yourself, “man, I’d really like to watch a Christmas Carol, but I wish it was more modern and Korean with time travel!” then Feel Good to Die is the drama for you!! It is currently available to stream on (you guessed it) Viki.com.

The Crowned Clown starring Yeo Jin Goo and Lee Se Young!

This drama isn’t new (it came out on TvN in 2019), but for some reason I just hadn’t taken the plunge on it till last night, and hunny let me tell you IT IS GOOD!!

It’s a pretty basic concept – there’s a crazy king who’s paranoid about being assassinated, and there just so happens to be a local circus clown that looks EXACTLY like him! I believe, it’s loosely based off of King Lear by Shakespeare, but I haven’t read that play yet.

So, naturally what’s a crazy king to do but force the clown to assume his identity and die! in his place.

But, with a king slipping further and further into madness and a goodly clown with a heart of gold, who will capture the heart and loyalty of the people and retain the crown in the end?

I haven’t finished it yet, I’ve only just finished episode 6 (of a 16 ep show) and Yeo Jin Goo just had an IT Crowd moment with himself in the street.

Or was it more of an It’s Always Sunny moment?

Anyways, I’m super stressed and excited to finish it and would highly recommend it!

Yeo Jin Goo’s acting is just *chef’s kiss* SUPERB!! He’s one that I had mixed reactions about when I first started Hotel Del Luna, but as I’ve seen more and more of his stuff (the kid is a total child actor superstar btw!) I’ve just fallen completely for his acting!

It’s over on Netflix now, and it was on Viki in the past, so if you wanna get as obsessed as me then go and give it a go! xD

Drama Recommendation: Memories of the Alhambra

If you’re in the mood for a beautifully shot, high-energy, romantic, sci-fi/fantasy, false-reality show – then please, PLEASE, go and watch Memories of the Alhambra over on Netflix.

Memories of the Alhambra is a 2018 tvN Korean Drama starring Park Shin Hye and Hyun Bin.

It tells the story of an investment CEO (Hyun Bin) and a young hostel owner (Park Shin Hye). Park Shin Hye is the sister of a genius AR (augmented reality) game developer that has disappeared after trying to sell his game to Hyun Bin. In his journey to purchase the game, Hyun Bin becomes a beta-tester, along with his ex-best friend and rival (Park Hoon) and together the two discover that the game has some pretty serious bugs.

Aaaaagh, I’m really struggling, trying not to tell you the major spoilers. All I can say is, you have to get to episode 4! Trust me, you might feel like the first few episodes are a little slow or boring or just not to your liking, but everything changes around episode 4. You have to make it to episode 4!

It’s really a beautiful show, shot half in Spain and half in Seoul, South Korea, the visuals are truly out of this world. Add to that the soundtrack, the costuming, and the acting and you’ve got a perfect evening (or one binge-weekend) treat. 🙂

Plus, the writer of this show previously gifted us with W: Two Worlds, which is another MUST SEE drama, so you just know it’s gonna be good. (Post on that show coming soon!)

Drama Recommendation: I Am Not A Robot

One of the best feel good happy drama’s out there, MBC’s 2017 kdrama I Am Not A Robot starring Yoo Seung Ho and Chae Soo Bin, will make you laugh, smile and cry.

It follows Kim Min Kyu (played by Yoo Seung Ho) a, for lack of a better word, rich boy CEO that has a serious, life threatening allergy – to people. If he touches or is touched by another person, or eats food prepared or handled by another person or even gets breathed on by another person, his body will break out in horrible hives, shut down, his lungs will close and he will die.

Despite all of this he’s managed to live the quarantine life to its fullest! Being a rich chaebol can allow for that, but he does get lonely.

It also follows Jo Ji A (played by Chae Soo Bin) who is a struggling inventor/entrepreneur that is starting up business after business, working non-stop, while praying for her lucky break. A pile of failed inventions though means a pile of unpaid debts, so when an ex-boyfriend offers to pay her $10K to pretend to be a robot for a day she agrees, totally unaware that the client she’ll be fooling is an ex-client of her own previous delivery service, an exchange that did not end pleasantly for either of them.

A boy that can’t touch humans and a girl that’s pretending to be not-human. Will their story have a happy ending or will the lies destroy more than an allergy to humans ever could?

Idk about my synopsis hahah!!

Basically, it’s a very sweet drama! I absolutely fell in love with this couple 🙂 Yoo Seung Ho and Chae Soo Bin have amazing chemistry and the show is so bright and light but has just enough heart-wrenching depth to pull your heartstrings right out of your chest! And then return them to you later with a smile and a warm hug. ❤

Also, I happened to watch it for the first time right at the start of quarantine back in early 2020 so it felt very appropriate and relatable! xD

You can find the complete drama on Viki, or *cough**cough* some other less reputable sites. But, if you’re interested in kdramas at all, Viki really is the place to go. You can watch some shows for free with ads or, pay a well-worth-it subscription fee to access all the shows with no ads. Not sponsored by the way, just really like Viki.

Here’s What I Would’ve Done!! When The Devil Calls Your Name (korean drama)

When the Devil Calls Your Name is a brilliant tvN 2019 K-Drama inspired by the 18th century German play Faust starring Jung Kyung Ho and Park Sung Woong as the Devil.


First off, it’s really an awesome drama. If you haven’t seen it, you really should go watch it over on Viki right now. Seriously, pause reading this and go over and watch it right now, if you don’t want to be spoiled.


If you don’t mind spoilers, then please join me for episode 1 of Here’s What I Would’ve Done…


Now, I know you’re thinking, “But, you just said it was brilliant. Why would you wanna change anything about it?”
Because, it was brilliant – for the first 14 episodes. It’s only the last 2 that I would change as those were, to be honest, a real mess.


The first 14 episodes followed Jung Kyung Ho, or as he will be referred to in this post as Devil Guy (even though he wasn’t the devil, he was the guy that sold his soul to the devil, but that’s just my nickname for him, ok!), an old washed up musician who sold his soul to the devil for youth, fame and fortune, but when the Devil, Park Sung Woong, comes to collect he tries to re-neg on the deal in any way that he can.


In the beginning, the Devil tells him that if he re-negs on the deal he will go back to his life before, where he is old, poor and alone, and that everyone who’s life he touched on account of the deal will revert back to their original paths as well. This freaks Devil guy out and he instead promises to find the Devil an A-grade soul to replace his.

That’s when the rest of the story really kicks off as he finds a young, talented, down on her luck, nice girl whom he believes has that A-grade soul that he’s after. He fosters her music career all the while trying to figure out how to get her to sign a soul contract.
But, something unexpected happens. He starts to like her. Not necessarily in that romantic way, (although there were some scenes that made me think…) but in that “this is a really nice person that I like as a human being” kind of way. So, he starts to try to think of new ways to wiggle out of his own wretched soul contract – but it’s all for naught.


I won’t spoil the rest of the plot – I’ll just jump right into what I would’ve done.


I would’ve ended the series where the only way out of the contract was for him to go back to being that poor, washed up, alone, has-been, that he had been before. The Devil had said that THAT was an option.


How inspiring would it have been to have the show end where he is able to change his past, undo this great mistake of selling his soul to the devil out of despair, and embrace his life as it was, saving the people that he cared about (spoiler alert he knew the A-grade girl back when he was an old washed up has-been) and living out the remainder of his days quietly and goodly, turning everyone that he met away from the empty temptations of the Devil. It would’ve turned it into Faust meets Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.

(incidentally this is my favorite version of A Christmas Carol from 1997 starring Tim Curry)


The show didn’t end that way. It kind’ve ended in a way that was like “so, yeah, you know even if you sell your soul, sometimes it can just come back to you.”


Oh, ok. Then – what was the point of all the pain, drama? Why did you put us, the audience, through the ringer if the solution in the end was just, “you know, someday you’ll be fine.”?


I still loved the show, it was brilliant – the first 14 episodes, the last 2, as I’ve said, were a mess. Therefore, in my opinion, the show would’ve been a lot better if the solution in the end had been to reverse the deal, give up all of the money, youth and fame, to live and die a normal life – a better life, as a better person.
